Exquisite cocktails to celebrate Mardi Gras
Sazerac
Absinthe, to rinse
1 sugar cube
½ teaspoon cold water
4 dashes of Peychaud’s bitters
2 ½ oz. Cantilever rye whiskey
Lemon peel to garnish
1. Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe, discarding any excess, and set aside.
2. In a mixing glass, muddle sugar cube, water, and bitters.
3. Add the rye whiskey, fill the mixing glass with ice and stir.
4. Strain into your prepared glass.
5. Twist the lemon peel over the surface to release its oils, then garnish with the peel.
French 75
1 ½ oz. The Botanist gin
¾ oz. fresh lemon juice
¾ oz. simple syrup
3 to 4 oz champagne – Moet & Chandon Imperial Brut
1 Lemon peel for garnish
1. Add gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a shaker filled with ice.
2. Shake until chilled and strain into a flute glass.
3. Top with champagne and garnish with a lemon twist.
Hurricane
2 oz. Cruzan Aged light rum
2 oz. Cruzan Aged dark rum
1 oz. passion fruit puree
1 oz. grenadine
Cruzan Hurricane Proof rum
Fresh fruit for garnish
1. Add light rum and dark rums, passion fruit puree, and grenadine into a shaker with ice.
2. Shake until chilled and strain into a hurricane glass over fresh ice.
3. Float Cruzan Hurricane Proof rum on top.
4. Garnish with fresh fruit.
*Float - hold the bowl end of a bar spoon in contact with the side of the glass and over the surface of the drink and pour slowly over it.
Southern Bourbon Milk Punch
1 ½ oz. The Wiseman Kentucky Straight bourbon whiskey
2 oz. whole milk
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ oz. honey
1/3 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Freshly grated nutmeg, cardamom, and cinnamon for rim
1. Rim cocktail glass with spice mixture.
2. Add bourbon, milk, vanilla extract, and honey into shaker with ice.
3. Shake until chilled and strain into a cocktail glass over crushed ice.
